The partnership of sumaa’s founders, Stefan Mandl and Thomas Sutner, traces back over a decade to their time at the University of Technology in Vienna. 

Between 2012 and 2022, as emerging architects, they lent their expertise to prestigious firms around the globe. Beyond academic pursuits, these years were marked by collaborations of significant pioneers and shared achievements. Notably, they played a key role in nurturing two architectural partner offices in Shenzhen, China, leading the team to international architecture competition wins. This period also laid the foundation for the architects’ commitment to building and leveraging a global network. Subsequent years saw them gaining practical experience in Europe, Asia, and America. Alongside their partners, they contributed to shaping the built environment worldwide specializing in Public, Commercial, Industrial and Domestic architecture.

In 2023, sumaa ZT GmbH was founded in Vienna, a natural progression of the fruitful collaboration of the network. From this base, sumaa is dedicated to creating buildings that are not just visually appealing but sustainable and functional. Their goal, in partnership with clients and collaborators, is to bring to life spaces that embody these principles, contributing to a world that seamlessly blends purpose and beauty.
